On beginning before you feel ready
A reflection on new beginnings, everyday rituals, and the quiet practice of returning to yourself.
Whether you’re a parent or not, I’m sure you know the feeling of stepping into something unfamiliar.
- A new job.
- A relationship.
- Moving somewhere new.
- Starting over.
- Beginning something you’ve never done before.
It’s exciting, but it can also feel uncertain. Uncomfortable. Sometimes it comes with friction—and a quiet voice wondering if you’re doing the right thing.
We often think confidence comes before action.
But lately I've been wondering if confidence is actually something that grows from returning to the same small actions over and over again.
I’ve realised that almost everything meaningful in my life began before I felt ready.
- Taking my pilates teacher training
- Saying yes to a management role
- Becoming a mother
- Sharing more of myself online
- Building Snug
None of these began with certainty.
They began with curiosity. And a willingness to keep showing up before I had everything figured out.
In unfamiliar seasons, I don’t think we need bigger plans.
I think we need smaller anchors.
The things that quietly remind us who we are, even while everything around us feels new.
For me, that often looks like
- making the same drink every morning
- writing one sentence in my journal
- taking a walk without headphones
- returning to a café where someone knows my order
- adding a nourishing element to my breakfast or matcha. Not because of the benefits of the ingredient, but for the intention I’m putting into it
None of these things solve uncertainty, but they help me return to myself.
And sometimes, that’s enough.

A question to sit with
What part of your life feels unfamiliar right now?
And what’s one small move that could help you return to yourself while you’re getting to know this version of who you are becoming?

In Stockholm, the weather has started to cool down a little after a few warm, high-energy summer days, and I’ve found myself naturally leaning into slower mornings and little rituals that help me feel more grounded.
This iced lavender cacao is a recipe that I have been returning to lately.
In a glass of ice add
- lightly simmered cherries or blackberries (or jam, if that’s what you have on hand)
- milk of choice - I prefer cows milk or almond
- lavender honey or just raw honey, if a flavoured version isn’t accessible to you
- a shot of organic or ceremonial cacao and water
- optional: reishi or maitake droplets
- sea salt
- a stem of lavender to stir it around
- Until next time, Amanda🤍
